China Die casting mold

Magnesium alloys are well-known for being the lightest structural alloys [1].

They are made of magnesium, the lightest structural metal, mixed with other metal elements to improve the physical properties. These elements include manganese, aluminium, zinc, silicon, copper, zirconium, and rare-earth metals [2].

Some of magnesium’s favourable properties include low specific gravity and a high strength-to-weight ratio. As a result, the material lends itself to a range of automotive, aerospace, industrial, electronic, biomedical, and commercial applications

Properties and advantages advantages   Applications

Magnesium alloys cover a wide array of applications, from automotive and aerospace applications to electronic and biomedical uses.

Structural applications Automotive, aerospace, industrial, and commercial applications are examples of structural applications. The advantage of magnesium alloys to be used in such applications is their light weight, high strength-to-weight ratio, high stiffness-to-weight ratio, castability, machinability, and great damping [4].

السيارات: support brackets for brakes and clutch, housing for transmission

Aerospace: landing wheels, helicopter rotor fittings, gearbox housings

Industrial: high-speed operating machinery, such as textile machines

Commercial: luggage, hand tools, computer housings, ladders

Electronic applications Electronic applications include electronic packaging, hard drive arms, cell phone and portable media device housings. Magnesium alloys are being used instead of plastics due to their light weight, strength and durability. They also are relatively better for heat dissipation and protection against electromagnetic and radio frequency interference [5].

Medical applications Portable medical equipment and wheelchairs that require light material make good use of magnesium alloys. Also, cardiovascular stents and orthopaedic devices are potential applications of some magnesium alloys due to magnesium’s biocompatibility and bioabsorbability [4].

China Die casting mold

An Overview of Die Casting
Die casting is the manufacturing process of choice when producing high volumes of relatively complex metal parts. Die cast parts are made in steel molds, similar to those used in injection molding, but use low melting point metals such as aluminum and zinc instead of plastics. Die casting is widely used due to its versatility, reliability and accuracy.

To create the die cast part, molten metal is forced into a mold via high hydraulic or pneumatic pressure. These steel molds, or dies, produce extremely complex, high tolerance parts in a repeatable process. More metal parts are made by die casting than by any other casting process.

Types of Die Casting
When it comes to any design, to achieve ultimate project success it is good to check your design against your chosen manufacturing process to see if any changes are needed. For die casting there are many things to consider to ensure you get a better quality of part.

Applying proper draft is crucial in die casting to ensure you get a consistent part without warpage or surface defects. The exact amount of draft you need to add depends on the part and tool design but get in touch early in the process and we can advise.

Used For

Die casting is used for low to mid volume metal part production, production metal parts, complex metal parts.

Advantages of Die Casting

Lower cost per part

Accurate and repeatable

Good surface finish and range of treatments

Good for larger and more complex parts

Squeeze Casting: A High-Performance Metal Forming Technique

Squeeze casting is a metal forming technique that allows the production of high-performance, complex-shaped metal parts with a fine microstructure and improved mechanical properties. This process involves the application of high pressure to the molten metal during solidification, which results in a more uniform and dense material that exhibits superior strength, toughness, and wear resistance.   The squeeze casting process typically involves the following steps:   1. Preparation of the mold: The mold is usually made of steel or other materials and is designed to produce the desired shape of the metal part.   2. Melting of the metal: The...

Magnesium Thixomolding: Revolutionizing the Manufacturing Industry

Magnesium Thixomolding is a relatively new manufacturing process that is revolutionizing the industry by producing high-quality, lightweight, and durable parts for a variety of applications. This process is also commonly known as Thixomolding, Thixoforming, or Semi-solid molding.   The process of Magnesium Thixomolding involves heating magnesium alloy to a specific temperature, which results in a partially melted, or semi-solid, state. The molten magnesium is then injected into a mold using high-pressure injection technology. The resulting product is a high-quality component that is strong, lightweight, and has excellent dimensional accuracy.   One of the most significant advantages of using Magnesium Thixomolding...

Creating a die casting mold is a complex process that involves multiple steps and requires a high level of expertise. The mold is the most critical component of the die casting process, as it determines the final shape and quality of the product.   The first step in creating a die casting mold is designing the product. This involves determining the dimensions, shape, and other specifications of the product. The design must take into account the material that will be used for the casting, as well as any special features or requirements.   Once the design is complete, the next...
