Es ist ein Metallgussverfahren, bei dem eine geschmolzene Legierung unter hohem Druck in eine Stahlform oder -matrize gespritzt wird, wo sie gehalten wird, bis sie abkühlt. Sobald das Metall erstarrt ist, wird die Form geöffnet und das Gussteil entnommen.

Gießen ist ein weit verbreitetes Verfahren zur Herstellung von Metallprodukten, insbesondere von komplexen. Da geschmolzene Materialien leicht die Form des Behälters bilden, in den sie gegossen werden, ist das Gießen ziemlich komplexer Formen fast so einfach wie das Herstellen einfacher Formen.
