With the development of automobile lightweight, the demand for magnesium aluminum and other light alloy castings is increasing year by year. Since 1990, automotive magnesium has been developing rapidly with an average annual growth rate of 20%. Magnesium alloy has become an important field of automotive material technology development. Due to its recyclability and less chip free technology, die-cast magnesium alloy is especially suitable for the requirements of circular economy, energy saving, low carbon and clean production, and plays a leading role in the development of lightweight automobile. Major auto parts manufacturers actively seize the development opportunity, have invested in the production of magnesium alloy automotive die casting research and development.

 

 

The application of magnesium alloy in automobile seats is relatively popular and mature. It started in Germany in the 1990s, when Mercedes Benz mainly used magnesium die-casting seat structure with three-point safety belt in SL Roadster. Now the seat structure with magnesium alloy can be as thin as 2mm, which greatly reduces the weight.

Alfa Alfa Romeo156 adopts magnesium alloy front seat frame, with 1.0kg backrest and 1.2kg seat cushion. Compared with the steel frame of the original structure, ALfa Alfa Romeo156 reduces the weight by 2.8kg. The DaimlerChrysler 500 SEL Roadster features a magnesium alloy die-cast seat back and frame. The Hyundai Genesis coupe seat also has a magnesium alloy frame.
