In recent years, the development of electric vehicles has become the trend of the development of the automobile industry, and more and more automobile enterprises have gradually put their research and development focus on electric vehicles (electric and hybrid). Currently, magnesium alloy transmissions are already available in pickup trucks and SUVs made in North America, and magnesium alloy manual transmissions from Volkswagen and Audi are also mass-produced in Europe and China. Currently, the Automotive Materials Alliance Magnesium Powertrain Casting Program (MPCC) aims to enable magnesium alloys to completely replace the major aluminum components in V block en-gine engines. In this project, the cylinder block was successfully reduced in weight by 25% (29% of the total aluminum casting was replaced with magnesium casting). Progress has been made in dynamometer tests on magnesium-reinforced engine prototypes, which means more magnesium alloys will be used in power systems in the future.
