Currently, the Automotive Materials Alliance Magnesium Powertrain Casting Program (MPCC) aims to enable magnesium alloys to completely replace the major aluminum components in V block en-gine engines. In this project, the cylinder block was successfully reduced in weight by 25% (29% of the total aluminum casting was replaced with magnesium casting). Progress has been made in dynamometer tests on magnesium-reinforced engine prototypes, which means more magnesium alloys will be used in power systems in the future.
