Die casting is the process of forcing molten metal under high pressure into mold cavities (which are machined into dies). Most die castings are made from nonferrous metals, specifically zinc, copper, and aluminum-based alloys, but ferrous metal die castings are possible. The die casting method is especially suited for applications where a large quantity of small to medium-sized parts are needed with good detail, fine surface quality, and dimensional consistency.
This level of versatility has placed die castings among the highest volume products made in the metalworking industry.
In recent years, injection-molded plastic parts have replaced some die castings because they are cheaper and lighter. Plastic parts are a practical alternative if hardness is not required and little strength is needed.

    Thixomolding

Thixomolding is a commercial SSM process for injection molding magnesium alloys (Decker and LeBeau, 2008). As shown in Fig. 7, the process consists of introducing magnesium alloy feedstock in the form of metal granules at room temperature into a heated barrel and screw of a modified injection molding machine, and then raising the temperature of the material to a semi-solid region under high shear rate mixing. The semi-solid slurry, consisting of nearly spherical solid particles suspended in a liquid matrix, is then injected into a preheated metal mold to make a net shape part. Similar to vacuum die casting, this process results...

What is OEM High Pressure Die Casting Magnesium Alloy Frame, why choose Magnesium Alloy Frame

Today we think of aluminum as a lightweight material, but what if we told you that there is a material that is 30% lighter than aluminum? Probably one of the best materials for car frames. As the world strives to reduce emissions and improve the performance of lightweight materials used in vehicles, magnesium alloy materials may play a key role. If your project requires a lightweight die casting with an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, magnesium die casting is the logical choice. What is magnesium? Magnesium is a base material for a variety of alloys. AZ91D is the most common die casting...
