Are you familiar with bicycles? I guess everyone is familiar with it. In the 70s and 80s, bicycles were one of the necessary tools for people to travel, but do you know what materials it is made of? It is made of carbon fiber, magnesium alloy, aluminum alloy and other advanced materials . Magnesium alloys have entered the market in the 70s and 80s. The main feature of magnesium alloys is lightness. Magnesium mountain bike frames make the bike lighter and more convenient to ride.

1. What is magnesium alloy
Magnesium is the lightest structural material, about 1.8 grams per cubic centimeter. Magnesium is the eighth most abundant element in the earth’s crust. Naturally found in dolomite, magnesite, carnallite and chloride (sea water). Magnesium is extracted from sea water, salt water and magnesium-containing minerals. The reserves of these minerals are unlimited
Magnesium is 75% lighter than steel and 33% lighter than aluminum. It provides component and function integration, provides high dimensional stability and improves fit and finish.

2. What are the advantages of magnesium?
It is the lightest material among all structural materials
75% lighter than steel
33% lighter than aluminum
High impact resistance
High strength to weight ratio
100% recyclable

Magnesium alloys can be used to design lighter bicycle frames that are lighter than aluminum, while maintaining high tensile strength and damping capabilities. All of these will make riding smoother and more efficient. The price of magnesium is also lower than that of popular lightweight materials such as carbon fiber.
However, even with advantages in performance and price, magnesium is still not regarded as the standard for bicycle manufacturing. why? Magnesium is softer and less stable than aluminum, and the manufacturing process is still energy-intensive. Metal is also prone to corrosion, making it difficult to maintain. The combination of manufacturing barriers and high-performance alternatives (such as carbon fiber) makes magnesium less popular in bicycle manufacturing.
Using magnesium mountain bike frame allows cycling enthusiasts to create a stronger riding comfort. If you want to know more about magnesium alloy products or have any better applications in life, please contact us.
